WordPress: way more than blogging

WordPress is a great tool for developers, even if you don’t consider yourself a developer. I am often told WordPress is for blogging, this could not be further from the truth. WordPress is way more than blogging in 2022. It’s a foundation from which a good developer can build on.

As a developer, I know how important it is to have a good foundation on which to build your site. WordPress gives developers a great jumping off point covering pretty much everything you need to get started with your site including account management, security and editor functions. It also takes care of some of the more tedious tasks like setting up user roles and permissions so that you can focus on building out the features that are unique to your site.

When I first started using WordPress, it was for a side project related to a charity I volunteered at. I wanted to create a website for the community centre to share news about new services or upcoming events without having to go through the whole process of setting up their own site from scratch. The ease with which I could install WordPress, choose a theme and start writing posts made it really easy for me to get going quickly and focus on what mattered most: creating content!

From here I started looking into WordPress more, learning PHP and eventually starting my own agency to build websites for other companies. Now I don’t just build company websites, I build bespoke applications onto of WordPress with one of my latest projects involving a full business networking site with functions for members to sign up, pay, manage their subscription, share their stories and RSVP for events the network run.

I’ve built WordPress sites for clients in a wide range of industries, including:

  • Real estate agencies
  • Travel websites
  • Event management companies
  • E-Commerce websites

After over 12 years working on WordPress I have seen the platform grow with some great developer tools and APIs that allow the platform to be the starting point for any number of different sites. If you have content to manage WordPress should be the foundation of your website platform.

Yet, there is more. WordPress is backed by an amazing community of developers that have contributed thousands of hours of coding time to free-to-use and open source plugins. These plugins reduce my development time and reduce the overall cost of a website built on the platform.

WordPress has grown to a position of dominance in the web space. The platform provides me with the tools I need to build a website quickly and efficiently. That is why we use WordPress for all of our client sites.

To that extent WordPress can be more than just a website. I have built websites that are not only give a business an online storefront but are also the marketing hub and CRM for the business. WordPress admin is extendable and this allows for content to be stored and accessed securely within the admin for internal business purposes. With deep integration with other website data WordPress makes perfect sense to be the core of your CRM solution.

I can help you build your website in a way that is easy to manage going forward and will allow you to focus on your business. I work with clients who are looking for more than just a website; they want their site to be part of a larger digital strategy that’s designed around their business goals.

When people say WordPress is for blogging this shows they are wrong and haven’t not used WordPress recently. WordPress is a modern tool for every developers toolkit.
